Koodo and Fido target the same customers — people who want solid coverage, fair pricing, and phone financing without paying Big Three prices.
Koodo is owned by TELUS, while Fido is part of the Rogers family. Both are well-established mid-tier carriers that balance affordability with reliability, but they’ve taken slightly different paths in 2025.
The biggest change this year? Koodo brought back 5G plans, while Fido is still running on 4G/LTE.
Add in Koodo’s new plan perks and a few subtle pricing advantages, and there’s a clear front-runner.
Koodo runs on the TELUS network, one of the most reliable and extensive in Canada. In July 2025, Koodo officially reintroduced 5G, after a two-year break when it briefly pulled those plans to avoid competing with TELUS.
The good news for users is that 5G is now back and available nationwide, with speeds up to 500 Mbps when paired with the 5G Speed Boost perk. Coverage is excellent across the country, and TELUS’s rural reach continues to be a major advantage.
Fido operates on the Rogers 4G LTE network. Coverage is strong across major cities and most suburban areas, though rural performance can be inconsistent. It’s a reliable network overall, but without 5G, Fido is starting to feel a bit behind the curve.
Rogers (and by extension Fido) has also faced a few major nationwide outages in recent years, which didn’t help public perception. While those issues have largely been resolved, they still left a mark on how many users view network reliability compared to TELUS and Bell.
Winner: Koodo — TELUS’s 5G rollout and nationwide coverage give Koodo the clear edge.
Both Koodo and Fido sit in the same mid-tier price range, offering similar plan structures and data options. However, Koodo usually provides slightly better value for the money.
Koodo’s plans start at $40 per month for 10 GB, but the real highlight is the 60 GB plan for $50. The small price jump gives you a massive boost in data, making it the best overall deal for most users.
Fido’s lineup mirrors Koodo’s, but at a slightly higher cost — $45 per month for 10 GB and $55 per month for 60 GB. The pricing gap isn’t huge, but since Fido only offers LTE speeds, it feels less competitive compared to Koodo’s 5G access.
Winner: Koodo — Similar plans, but lower prices and 5G access make it a better buy.

Koodo has one of the more interesting perk systems among Canadian carriers. Every plan includes one free perk, and you can pay to add more if you want.
The options are actually useful:
Data Rollover – carry over unused data to next month
Bonus 10 GB Data – great for heavier users
Unlimited Long Distance Pack – handy for frequent callers
Premium Voicemail – upgraded voicemail features
5G Speed Boost – increase max speed up to 500 Mbps
It’s a smart way to tailor your plan to your habits, whether you care about speed, flexibility, or extra data.
Fido’s main feature is Data Overage Protection, which pauses your data instead of charging you extra once you reach your limit. It’s a nice touch but doesn’t compete with Koodo’s broader perk system.
Fido also offers device financing and strong integration with the Rogers–Fido–Chatr ecosystem, but beyond that, perks are limited.
Winner: Koodo — Better customization, real value features, and more control.
Koodo runs on TELUS’s support system, so you can get help online, by phone, or in-store. It’s usually fine, not amazing, not terrible. Wait times can be hit or miss depending on when you reach out.
Fido offers pretty much the same setup with chat, phone, and in-store support. It’s decent overall, but service quality really depends on the rep you get and the store you visit.
Winner: Tie — Neither one is great, but both get the job done. Expect an okay experience, nothing more, nothing less.
Koodo combines a solid digital experience with in-person service through TELUS and Koodo stores. The app is intuitive and easy to navigate, and billing and plan changes are straightforward.
Fido’s app is reliable and does the basics well, but it hasn’t evolved much in recent years. It works fine, but it’s not as polished or flexible as Koodo’s system.
Winner: Koodo — Cleaner interface and the option for in-store support when you need it.
Koodo and Fido are both dependable carriers with good coverage and fair pricing, but in 2025, Koodo is clearly ahead.
It offers better network technology, smarter plan perks, and slightly lower prices, all backed by TELUS’s excellent coverage.
Fido remains a good option for LTE users who prefer Rogers’ network, but it’s starting to feel dated next to Koodo’s 5G plans and flexible features.
Overall Winner: Koodo — Better value, better features, and faster network performance.
Yes. Koodo’s plans are usually $5 cheaper for the same amount of data and include 5G access.
No. Fido still operates on the Rogers 4G LTE network.
Yes. Both let you finance new or pre-owned devices with similar terms.
Koodo lets you choose one free perk, like rollover data or a speed boost, and buy extras if you want. It’s a simple way to customize your plan.
Koodo. You get faster speeds, better perks, and slightly lower pricing all on a top-tier network.

Tomas, the founder and editor-in-chief of NetSpeed Canada, moved to Vancouver, BC over 10 years ago and was shocked by the high cost of home internet plans. As a problem solver, he researched alternatives and discovered that Canada has many lesser-known internet providers beyond the Big 3. This led to the creation of NetSpeed Canada, a platform where Canadians can enter their address and view all available internet plans.
