This Chatr Mobile review is based on my own experience as a customer. I’ve been with Chatr for over five years now.
Chatr is Rogers’ low-cost flanker brand, focused on prepaid simplicity, affordable plans, and straightforward service.
While it doesn’t yet offer 5G, Chatr has been steadily improving, retiring its old 3G service and offering competitive LTE/4G plans.
If you want a no-contract, prepaid plan on Rogers’ nationwide network without paying Rogers prices, Chatr is worth a serious look.

Chatr runs entirely on Rogers’ network, so coverage is solid across Canada, especially in urban and suburban areas. The catch is that Chatr caps speeds at LTE/4G — there’s no 5G access yet, which feels limiting if you have a newer device.
That said, LTE is still plenty fast for streaming, browsing, and everyday use. For me, reliability has been more important than peak speed, and I rarely notice issues in day-to-day use.
Internationally, texting works, but I’ve personally had issues with voice calls not working abroad. Something to keep in mind if you travel a lot.
Chatr offers prepaid, month-to-month plans. No contracts, no credit checks, and you can manage everything through their online portal.
One thing I like is that existing customers sometimes get targeted upgrade offers not available to the public. These usually include more data for the same (or slightly higher) price, which is a refreshing change, as most carriers focus only on luring new customers.
You can also get bonus data if you set up AutoPay, which is how I currently get extra GBs.
For example, I pay $29/month for 76 GB of data:
20 GB is my base plan
56 GB is an AutoPay bonus
Even as a heavy user, I rarely pass 30 GB, so anything over 50 GB feels more like marketing than necessity, but it’s nice to have.
Overall, Chatr has been reliable and easy to manage. The online dashboard makes it simple to top up or switch plans, and I appreciate how they occasionally reward loyal customers with better offers.
The biggest frustration for me has been porting out. Chatr doesn’t make it easy to find your account number, which you need if you want to switch carriers. You either have to call in and wait forever, or use a workaround:

Look for your BAN number (7 digits). Add “00” in front to make it 9 digits for porting.
Not the smoothest process, but it works. This was important for me since I’ve been thinking of switching to Public Mobile to finally take advantage of 5G with my new iPhone 16.
Chatr doesn’t have physical stores, but they do have an online portal and phone-based support. In my experience, the online side works well for day-to-day tasks like topping up or switching plans.
Calling support, however, usually means long wait times. It’s not the fastest or most seamless experience compared to digital-first carriers like Public Mobile or Fizz.

Other users often echo the same points: Chatr is affordable, simple, and reliable on the Rogers network, but limited by its lack of 5G and slower customer service.
Many like the AutoPay bonuses and targeted offers for existing customers, while others complain about the difficulty of porting numbers out.
Chatr is a solid budget carrier if you want affordable prepaid service on Rogers’ network and don’t care about 5G speeds. The plans are generous, especially with AutoPay bonuses, and long-time customers like me do get rewarded with better offers over time.
That said, if you want 5G or travel often, you might find Chatr a bit limiting. For me, it’s been reliable for over five years, but with a new 5G phone in hand, I’m seriously considering switching to Public Mobile for faster speeds and better roaming options.
