Internet Providers Alberta

Alberta is part of Western Canada and has over 15 internet service providers.

The median upload speed in Alberta is 83 Mbps, while the median download speed is 179 Mbps. Rogers (since they acquired Shaw) and TELUS are the two major internet service players in Alberta and, as such, offer the largest broadband coverage.

If you are looking for pure performance, TELUS fibre is the best technology currently available on the market. Their fastest internet package, the PureFibre X Internet 3G, offers symmetrical download and upload speeds of 3000 Mbps.

Shaw, which merged with Rogers in 2023, also offers a broad range of high-speed internet services in Western Canada, specifically targeting previously hard-to-reach areas.

Rogers’ fibre optic offerings range from a 75 Mbps plan to a 1.5 Gbps plan.

You may also consider investing in a smaller ISP, such as GETUS, which also offers fibre optic internet at prices that rival the bigger players.

GETUS is a Third-Party Internet Access provider (TPIA), meaning it utilizes the networks of bigger players rather than investing in its own infrastructure, potentially providing similar performance at a lower cost.

For Alberta residents on a budget, cable and DSL plans are great options. Comwave and TekSavvy both offer 30 Mbps plans for an affordable $29.95 per month.
