Freedom Mobile Review (2026) – Plans, Prices, Reviews

I was with Freedom Mobile a few years ago, so I have some personal experience to share in this Freedom Mobile review.

Back when I lived in Vancouver, BC, the signal was strong in Metro Vancouver but dropped quickly once I left the city.

Since then, Freedom has expanded its coverage significantly, and now they offer nationwide service with much better reliability.

Freedom positions itself as the cheaper fourth option compared to the Big Three (TELUS, Rogers, and Bell). Since being acquired by Quebecor, the same company that owns Videotron and Fizz, they’ve invested heavily in their network and revamped their plans.

Today, they’re known for aggressive pricing, especially on Canada–U.S.–Mexico plans, and 5G coverage across major urban centres.

Coverage and Network

Freedom Mobile’s network has come a long way since the Wind Mobile days. Coverage used to be strong only in urban cores with large gaps once you left city limits.

Today, Freedom offers nationwide coverage by leaning on roaming agreements, with their own 5G towers live in Metro Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and the Greater Toronto Area.

One important thing to note is that Freedom Mobile is not available in Quebec. That’s likely because Quebecor already operates Fizz in the province and doesn’t want the two brands competing directly with each other.

Outside those core zones, you’ll mostly be on LTE. Speeds are solid in cities but can be inconsistent in rural areas compared to the Big Three. If you rarely leave the city, this isn’t a big issue.

Fizz, Quebecor’s flanker brand, also rides on Freedom’s towers, so both benefit from ongoing investments into the network.

Plans and Pricing

Freedom built its reputation on affordable data plans, and that continues today.

• One of the best deals is their 5 GB Canada–U.S.–Mexico plan for $29 a month. It’s simple, affordable, and great if you travel across North America.
• In 2026, Freedom introduced large bucket plans with 100 GB, 150 GB, and even 200 GB of data. While most people won’t use anywhere near that much, the marketing works because it looks impressive on paper. In practice, these plans are almost as good as what the big three market as “unlimited” plans, especially since most users never come close to hitting those limits anyway.
• Compared to Public Mobile or Lucky Mobile, which often push giant 60 GB–80 GB plans, Freedom still feels more balanced with some realistic smaller data tiers available.

All plans are prepaid month-to-month, and you can sign up online or in-store. You can also use Freedom nationwide, even if you live outside their core markets.

My Personal Experience with Freedom Mobile

When Freedom was still called Wind Mobile, they stood out for being the first Canadian carrier to include U.S. roaming in their plans. The trade-off back then was very patchy coverage, great in the city, but you’d lose signal the moment you left.

That has improved significantly. Today, I can stay connected throughout the city and even on road trips, though speeds still dip outside of core zones. The Canada–U.S.–Mexico plan has been a standout for me. I’ve used it in the States without needing to buy an eSIM, which saved me both time and money.

The sign-up process is straightforward. I ordered a SIM online and activated it in-store for free. The Freedom Mobile app, however, has been hit or miss; it works, but it’s often slow or unstable.

Customer Service

Customer service is one of Freedom’s weak spots. While I’ve been able to resolve issues eventually, reviews online often mention long wait times, billing confusion, and buggy self-serve tools. The app could also use improvement, as many customers report laggy performance.

On the upside, Freedom does maintain physical stores in major cities, which is something you won’t get with flanker brands like Public or Fizz.

Freedom Mobile Reviews from Other Users

Other customers highlight Freedom’s great prices, especially compared to the Big Three, and the convenience of U.S. and Mexico roaming.

At the same time, many reviews echo frustrations with coverage in rural areas and inconsistent customer service experiences.

Final Verdict

Freedom Mobile is a solid fourth option in Canada’s wireless market. If you live in BC, Alberta, Manitoba, or Ontario and spend most of your time in or near big cities, Freedom offers excellent value, especially for cross-border travellers who want Canada–U.S.–Mexico coverage included.

That said, coverage outside urban areas still lags behind TELUS, Bell, and Rogers, and customer support isn’t their strong suit. If you want cheaper phone plans with flexibility, they’re worth a look. If you prefer smoother support and more perks, Public Mobile or Fizz might be better alternatives.
