Distributel was once one of Canada’s largest independent ISPs, known for offering competitive pricing and friendlier service compared to the big telecoms.
But since being acquired by Bell in September 2022, the brand has changed significantly. In 2025, Distributel’s residential internet services are being merged under the EBOX brand, which is also Bell-owned.
In this Distributel internet review, we look at their coverage, pricing, and what customers are saying after the Bell acquisition.
Distributel primarily serves customers in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta. Their internet plans use Bell’s fibre infrastructure in many areas, with DSL and cable also available depending on location.
While coverage is broad in urban centres, not every household can access the fastest fibre-to-the-home speeds. Availability is generally best in Ontario and Quebec.

Distributel offers a range of fibre and DSL internet plans. Pricing is typically cheaper if you sign up for a 2-year contract, but this means losing the flexibility of switching providers without penalties.
Because they run on Bell’s network, speeds are comparable to Bell Fibe — but pricing is usually slightly lower on paper. However, many customers report that the overall value has declined since the acquisition.
When Distributel was independent, they were seen as a budget-friendly alternative to Bell and Rogers. Now that they are Bell-owned, much of that competitive edge has disappeared.
EBOX (also Bell-owned) often offers similar plans at better prices.
Oxio (independent) is generally seen as a more transparent and customer-friendly alternative.
TekSavvy remains another independent option in Ontario and Quebec with more competitive pricing than Distributel.
Customer support is one of the biggest complaints about Distributel today. Many users report that after the Bell acquisition, service quality declined.
Support is now frequently outsourced overseas, with agents who are sometimes difficult to reach and not always able to resolve issues effectively. Long wait times and billing frustrations are also common themes in reviews.
This marks a stark contrast from when Distributel was an independent ISP, where customer service had a stronger reputation.

For most households, Distributel is no longer the recommended choice.
